Sand, Airplanes and Gators

SAND

While we were at the beach, the lifeguard came by and took down the red flag.

Then, he put up the yellow flag.

AIRPLANES

After lunch, we went to the Air Force Armament Museum on the Elgin Air Force Base. This is an MOAB, Mother Of All Bombs.

Overlooking the museum from the second floor.

More airplanes.

There were airplanes and helicopters on the grounds of the museum.

Nathan loved getting out of the stroller and running around the airplanes.

GATORS

We ate dinner at Fudpucker's and Gator Beach. Here are some gators sleeping on the dock.

Nathan enjoyed watching the gators. He also petted one.

Relaxing Day

The tropical storm blew through last night. The wind was very loud and gusted up to 50 miles per hour. This morning it was cloudy and rained a bit. We just relaxed today and recovered from our long road trip. We took a walk along the beach and went on a scenic tour of the area. We played on the beach a couple of times today.

Nathan loves to open and close the sliding glass doors that go out to our balcony. We are right above the pool and he likes to watch everyone swimming below.

Finally Arrived in Destin

We arrived in Destin around 6PM. We quickly unpacked the car and hit the beach.

The red flags were out because a tropical storm was heading towards Destin.

This is the view from our condo looking down the beach to the right. Notice the storm clouds rolling in from the left.

Playing on the beach.

Checking out the water.

Jumping the waves.

Being chased by the waves.

Not wanting to go back to the condo.

New Orleans City Park

We spent the morning at City Park in New Orleans. We played on the play ground and then walked around the beautiful park. We could only stay for a couple of hours, but I think we could have spent the whole day there. We will have to plan another visit to this park.

Randy and Nathan playing in the park. We were watching the ducks swimming in the water.

Laura and Nathan on yet another bridge. The large circular red brick building behind us is a bird house.

Randy was amazed to learn were moss comes from. It was hanging in all the oak trees in the park.

Laura and Nathan were very hot. It was very humid out and actually sprinkled on us a couple of times while we were playing in the park.

My car with the beautiful oak trees at City Park.

Nathan and the "Suicide Oak" tree. This oak tree was once an area of despair, where legend tells us that the depressed went to end it all. The branch behind Nathan that is on the ground is over 150 years old.

Then, we climbed back in the car to head to Destin.

Family Road Trip to Destin, FL

The car is packed. Nathan is all smiles and buckled in his car seat. He is ready to hit the road.

Nathan was just told how long he'll be in his car seat today.

We stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch in Alexandria, La. Nathan was happy to get out of the car and run around a bit.

We stopped in Kenner, LA for the night. Mom set us up at the Hilton Airport Hotel. It is right across the street from the New Orleans airport. Nathan is making himself at home by jumping on the bed.

We had a great view from our room. A very large palm tree was right in our window.

The New Orleans Saints football team was staying at our hotel for their training camp. We ended up on the same floor as the players. This drink refrigerator was in the hall on our floor. There were several security guards stationed around the hotel and were very friendly when we asked them several questions about the players.
